Smith Chart Workbench
Excel paste + frequency sweep + de-embedding + pass/fail mask + matching synthesis.
Input and RF Controls
Apply current tab settings to chart immediately.
How to use this tab
- Paste data into the input box. Use blank lines to split sets.
- Select set color/display options and enable markers, value text, or coordinate text.
- Click Draw/Refresh to apply changes and update summary/table/chart.
Delimiter: comma/tab/space. Blank line = new set. In sweep mode use 3 columns (freq, A, B) or 2 columns with auto sweep start/stop.

Actions
Ready.
How to use this tab
- Turn on frequency sweep and set the frequency unit.
- Use either 3-column input (frequency, A, B) or 2-column input with start/stop frequency.
- Use Draw/Refresh to enable sweep navigator and band summary.
Sweep Mode
If frequency column is omitted, points are spaced linearly between sweep start and stop.
Point count is limited to avoid overly dense rendering.
How to use this tab
- Enable de-embedding and choose shift direction (toward source/load).
- Set two-way phase and attenuation values.
- Optionally enable frequency scaling and run Draw/Refresh.
Reference Plane Shift (De-Embedding)
How to use this tab
- Enable mask check and set RL, VSWR, |Gamma|, and delivered power limits.
- Optionally highlight fail points directly on the chart.
- Run Draw/Refresh to update PASS/FAIL yield in real time.
Spec Pass / Fail
Spec check disabled.
How to use this tab
- Enable matching path and set design frequency.
- Choose up to 3 matching steps with component type and value.
- Draw/Refresh to see matching trajectory and final metrics.
Matching Synthesis (Focused Point)
Matching synthesis disabled.

What This Workbench Solves
Smith Chart Workbench is designed for engineers who exchange impedance and reflection data in spreadsheets and need immediate visual and numerical interpretation without desktop RF software setup. The tool accepts plain paste, keeps set-level separation, and surfaces practical metrics for review and reporting.
- Move from raw R/X or Gamma pairs to chart trajectory and derived metrics in one pass.
- Compare multiple sets quickly with independent display controls.
- Inspect pass/fail limits and matching path behavior from the same interface.
Recommended workflow for measurement teams
- Paste measured points as separate sets by fixture, lot, or temperature condition.
- Enable sweep mode when frequency context is available to inspect trend behavior across band.
- Apply de-embedding and specification masks, then export table/chart for design review records.
Assumptions and Validation
Calculations use ideal algebraic relations under the selected reference impedance and input settings. Final design or production sign-off should always be based on calibrated measurements, verified reference-plane handling, and frequency-aware fixture/cable characterization.
- Confirm the same Z0 convention across instruments, simulation files, and reports.
- Document de-embedding settings used when sharing results with other teams.
- For critical decisions, cross-check representative points using independent scripts or EDA flows.
